About Adv. Ghandi Badela
Adv Ghandi Badela is an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa. He was admitted in October 2011 and was called to the Johannesburg Bar in 2012. He underwent specialised training in alternative dispute resolution in various areas including in international commercial arbitration, construction law arbitration and trade and investment dispute resolution. Further, Adv Ghandi Badela is also a mediation practitioner.
Adv Ghandi Badela is a member of both the Johannesburg Society of Advocates and Polokwane Society of Advocate. He runs a general law and dispute resolution practice.
Prior to being called to the Bar Ghandi Badela worked for local and international companies (SAB, PEU and SAAB Grintek) at executive and strategic level for over 16 years.
He is a former non-executive director for provincial and national public sector organisations including City Power, Denel and CSIR. Over the years spent in both the private and public sectors he gained vast strategic experience in both public and private organisations.
Adv Ghandi Badela is a former Councillor of the Legal Practice Council, a national regulatory statutory body, which regulates the affairs and conduct of all legal practitioners in the Republic. As a councillor and a member of the executive committee of the Legal Practice council, he expanded his regulatory experience.
Adv Ghandi Badela holds Masters Degrees in Electromechanical Engineering, Engineering Management and Packaging Technology. Further, he obtained degrees in LLB, Business Administration (MBA) and LLM in Intellectual Property Laws. He has also completed various courses in mediation and arbitration in both domestic and International arbitration for both Commercial and Construction disputes.
Currently, Adv Ghandi Badela is a director of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa “AFSA”, a non-profit organisation. He is a member of the Guiding Committee of China Africa Joint Arbitration Centre, “CAJAC”. He is in the panel of arbitrators of Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (Commercial and construction arbitration). He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, UK. I am also a member of the International Institute of Space Law.
Adv Ghandi Badela has participated and continues to participate in the BRICS Legal Forum. Previously he was a member of the BRICS Legal Forum Steering committee. He is an active participant of the SADC Lawyers Association.
Adv Ghandi Badela is also an active member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates. He is part of advocacy training team of the General Council of Bars. Further, Adv Ghandi Badela was a member of the Johannesburg Bar Council member for five consecutive years from 2016/2017 until 2020/2021.
Adv Ghandi Badela’s practice is general in nature; however, has a strong focus on commercial litigation, administrative law, contract law, tax law, competition law, intellectual property law, construction law, commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. My practice also provides legal services in investigation on legal issues and report preparation.
